My Lolo and Lola used to take the entire family on random trips throughout the year.
From water parks to amusement parks (Big Bang sa Alabang, Glicos, Kids at Work, Enchanted, hahahaha!), to more educational trips like Nayong Pilipino, the Ayala Museum, name it! Any excuse to take the family on a field trip!
It brought them joy to see everyone together despite the noise and chaos we created!
So when they passed away, our parents decided to continue their legacy. And when THEY got too busy, the next generation decided to take over and keep on finding little trips and lakwatsas for everyone. :)
We’re an easy-to-please bunch! All we need is food and each other (to make fun of) and we’re good. And Windward House (thanks to Patty Laurel-Filart and Pam Begre :)) proved to be the perfect venue for some much needed R&R. Or in our case, K&A. Kainan and asaran. Haha!
Only two hours away from Alabang (via Daang Hari), this beautiful industrial-meets-zen-meets-tropical home is easy to find. It has a huge lawn, a gorgeous infinity pool, two casitas (with their own bathrooms) and two other basement bedrooms (which share a bathroom). Perfect for a large group like us!
The house is also just a stone’s throw away from the beach.
I’m not much of a beach person (I ALWAYS always get the itchies. Huhuhu!), so I happily stayed behind and siesta’d the day away in the al fresco living area.
For meals (as I mentioned, this is always the highlight of our gatherings. Haha!), we came up with a menu good for 2 days and were advised to bring with us the main ingredients. Windward House is taken care of by the owner’s trusted staff which means they’re also there to assist in the cooking, cleaning and emergency shopping (in case you needed anything from the bayan like additional ingredients, fresh seafood or bottled drinks). They have a beautiful kitchen at the center of the house, and most everything you’ll need to prepare for a feast. They even had an ice crusher for our halo-halo!
On our way home my Papa goes, "Wow, I didn't know I needed this trip.". We all need short breaks every once in a while. Vacations don't always have to be a big production. Just a few hours outside of the city and a little bit of effort can go a long way. Needless to say, our stay at Windward House was one for the books. :)
